Help Renovate Our Visitors Center

All Gifts Are Currently Being Matched by Sponsors!

As our Frank N. Bash Visitors Center enters its third decade in service, we’ve started an extensive renovation of its public spaces. You are invited to be part of this transformative project by contributing to its funding.

Right now, when you donate, your gift will unlock matching funds. A donation of $50 becomes $100; $100 becomes $200. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to double your impact!

How much money are we raising?

In total, we are raising $5.5 million for renovations. And we are very close to reaching that goal!

Please see the thermometer in the sidebar for the most up-to-date number of how much we've raised so far.

What We Are Renovating

Your donation will help us:

  • Create new interactive and educational exhibits in the Frank N. Bash Visitors Center
  • Upgrade visitors center facilities
  • Renovate visitor galleries at the Harlan J. Smith and Hobby-Eberly Telescopes
  • Expand the self-guided tour experience through new audio tours, films, and interpretive outdoor exhibits

Why These Renovations Are So Important

McDonald Observatory is a popular destination for science education, welcoming 75,000 people in a typical year. The Frank N. Bash Visitors Center first opened in 2002. Since then, there have been major advances in scientific discovery. Your donation will help us share these advances with our many visitors while improving their overall experience at our site.
