Endowments and Gift Planning

Endowed gifts and gifts made through gift planning create a legacy and support McDonald Observatory for generations to come.

Endowments

By contributing to or establishing an endowment, you can support McDonald Observatory’s work in perpetuity.

Endowments provide support for the Observatory’s programs. Your gift is invested into a pooled fund, and the original gift amount is protected while distributions support the endowment’s purpose. Investment earnings above distribution help the endowment value grow over time, to keep pace with inflation and maintain your endowment’s spending power.

Gift Planning

Gift planning can be an excellent way to make a charitable contribution tailored to your own unique circumstances and financial needs.

A planned gift may meet your goals and benefit your family by:

  • Bringing immediate and deferred tax advantages to you and your heirs
  • Creating an income for you and your family for life, with tax deductions
  • Enabling you to give property or real estate to charity, while avoiding capital gains taxes
  • Establishing a legacy during your lifetime
  • Enabling you to give a more significant gift than could otherwise be made, while also taking care of your family and heirs

When you include McDonald Observatory and UT Astronomy in your will or estate plan, you become a member of the Texas Leadership Society.
