What Are Astronomers Doing? Jennifer Simmerer
"Studying the Disk of the Milky Way"
Jennifer Simmerer
| Jennifer Simmerer is a recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. She studies the chemical processes that make elements (like carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen) within stars. The chemical make-up of stars can be tied to the locations where they were formed. Jennifer worked with faculty member Chris Sneden on her Ph.D. dissertation project -- the chemical history of stars in the Milky Way’s thick disk. These kinds of studies have offered insights on the Milky Way’s formation history.
